Anxieties of the Future

After not taking a break from education and graduation from university soon to be arriving, the big wide world seems very intimidating and almost scary. No matter how hard I plan I am always going to be anxious about stepping out into the professional world, finding a job is hard enough let alone finding one during 'covid times' and moving to a new house and paying bills is quite daunting without a student loan there to support you. Life is not going to stand still while you get your plans in order, so it's best to start understanding now what anxieties you have that may hinder you and how to overcome them to achieve what you want.

Employment

As you already know Covid-19 has hit the whole world and its industries very hard and we are still learning to manage life working from home. Being a very active and outdoors person, I don't particularly like staying indoors all day especially in the room I sleep, eat, and work in as it doesn't bode well for getting easily distracted. This is something I know I'll need to work on if the world continues to be more isolated and digitally orientated, I am already in the process of creating a new workspace in the garage in my current rented student housing that will be a good distraction free work zone.

After graduating however, I don't know quite where I'm going to be just yet so I need to keep in mind that to work successfully from home I need a separate my living and work area. This is the worst-case scenario, hopefully I will be able to get a job at a company that has its own studio to work from.

Another anxiety that many people worry about, is that I find myself worrying that my work isn't good enough, I don't have enough of it, or I simply don't have the skills required for my desired job. It's difficult to not think like this as no one wants to be out of a job and unsuccessful which is why I need to gain more confidence in myself and commit to doing research into the relevant areas that I am anxious about so when I do go into industry I will be prepared for any scenario. There will be a lot of times where I won't know a certain skill or technique in industry, but I have found that I'm a very quick learner and I'm almost always eager to learn new things that will help me develop as a person and a creative maker.

New Places, New People!

At the end of summer 2021 my tenancy at my current address will come to an end, this means sadly I have to move out but currently I don't know where. Assuming that I will have a job lined up by this time I will intend to move to where the job is located, this is when more of my anxieties emerge. I have only ever lived in two towns during the 21 years I have walked on this planet and going to live somewhere else I've never been before is very intimidating especially when I wouldn't know anyone or anywhere to go. Moving is inevitable and so I am going to have to take it as it comes but also to calm my nerves, I will need to read up on the best places to go and ways of meeting new people but also remembering to keep in touch with those friends I already have.

Being an anxious person a lot of the time, I have learnt what triggers my anxiety and the ways to deal with it that work best for me and so although the future is scary, I will take it as it comes and continue to keep trying to be the best version of myself that I can be.
