Personal Branding

Successful businesses are always recognisable by logo, colour, and aesthetic. To create a brand like this you need to understand what your brand means to you and how you want it to be perceived by others. Nike has become one of the world's most recognisable brands as well as Apple, McDonalds, and Starbucks; all these brands have their own unique style which has made them become so popular. Apple is renowned for its slick minimalistic design aiming at a more adult target market whereas McDonalds is known for being family friendly and fun, recognisable from its unchanged golden arches of the big M.

For a while now I have been using Instagram as a platform to promote my personal brand The Makers Cabinet, I chose this name as I wanted people to view my many models as though they were curious oddities kept behind an old antique cabinet that was just bursting with creativity. This account features all the past and present projects I have worked on in college through to university as well as all the models and illustrations I have done in my free time. I even designed my own logo for this account which was inspired by the art nouveau movement and rich bold colours of purple and gold. To me this logo represents my eccentricity and creative ability, however having a logo like this makes it seem like I'm not one individual person but a professional company. Using my own name Gemma Goodridge is more suitable for a new graduate looking for a job, it shows employers that I am who I am and not a large company, making me more employable.

I have decided to keep some of my social media like Instagram and Pinterest as The Makers cabinet as I have already established this brand with my current followers, however my Linked in and my portfolio will be branded using my name, the only thing that won't change is the colour scheme which links them both together keeping my personal brand connected and uniform.

I am a very creative person as well as a maker and I want this to be shown through my social media. I like to post fun content of me making models and the process stages especially which I find my followers enjoy most of all as they are able to see how I get to the final result. When creating content, I like to incorporate as much colour and little details as I can, sometimes i'll have a few plants in the background or maybe even some of my harry potter collection, this helps create a connection with my followers as well as brightening up my page.

I will continue to develop my brand as I create new content as well as growing older and growing my own personality and style.
