Museum Models - Studio Ghibli

gemmagoodridgegg

Wikipedia defines the purpose of a museum to collect, preserve, interpret, and display objects of artistic, cultural, or scientific significance for the education of the public. From a visitor or community perspective, the purpose can also depend on one's point of view. The function of this model I am making is to be able to share a different outlook on the animated character Ponyo in the form of an exhibition piece in a museum, like the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. My Ponyo sculpture will be an interpretation of Miyazakis art form used as promotional material for the film Ponyo in order to promote the heritage of Studio Ghibli’s animations.

The displays will be... Not only for the benefit of people who are already fans of Studio Ghibli Not a procession of artwork from past Ghibli films as if it were "a museum of the past" A place where visitors can enjoy by just looking, can understand the artists' spirits, and can gain new insights into animation

An extract I picked out from "This is the Kind of Museum I Want to Make!" by Hayao Miyazaki

Because I am making a model for a museum It needs to meet certain benchmarks. My model should have an excellent finish on all components, stable and soundly built, be recognisable as Ponyo and keep to the scale I have already determined. Because I am designing and creating something that hasn't been made before (only in the form of animation) there are not many rules to abide by except sticking to my own design. From the words of Miyazaki I want to create a piece of art to be loved by all and so that they can find enjoyment and learn new things.
