Finishing Up

With all the casts done all that was left to do was paint and varnish. A few weeks ago I had bought an airbrush to use on these models as I wanted to achieve a more professional result and having done research watching many video tutorials I became more confident that I could achieve the level of detail I wanted. Take a look at one of Stan Winston's tutorials: https://youtu.be/YbGDSASQFvo

I needed a range of paints that would adhere to my casting material well and to be easy to use with my airbrush, again I scoured the internet and ended up buying Vallejo airbrushing paints that could be used with a paint brush as well; these are acrylic based paints and used everywhere by miniature model painters.

The final step in my process is the varnishing stage. Escape rooms need props that are durable, realistic and high quality so I needed to find a suitable varnish that would prevent any damage to the carefully done paintwork. I had to buy a few different formulas to do tests to find out which one will be the best. Starting with Plasti-dip it was a really good contender, it had some form of rubber inside which helped making it more impact resistant however the only downside was that it peeled off, in other words completely useless. Due to time I could only try out two others which were basic clear matt varnishes that were designed to be used in all weathers which is exactly what I needed.

Overall I will not be able to finish all 3 of the goblins for the deadline of the 27th November 2020. With proper planning from the start and constant dedication it may have been possible however now I will only be able to complete 1 to the best standard that I can produce. Looking back at the proposal I drafted up I will have hit my aim of designing three unique goblins each with a different background area. The casting material I used is also extremely durable and well thought out for the projects guidelines. I am extremely happy with my creations and cant wait for the client to see them in person.
